It's the Mallard's sibling! LNER A4 Silver Link, named after a poem by Walter Scott.

>True love's the gift which God has given
>To man alone beneath the heaven;
>It is not fantasy's hot fire,
>Whose wishes, soon as granted, fly;
>It liveth not in fierce desire,
>With dead desire it doth not die;
>It is the secret sympathy,
>The silver link, the silken tie,
>Which heart to heart, and mind to mind,
>In body and in soul can bind.

Honestly I'm usually not a fan of steam locomotives at all but the ones London and North Eastern Railway built were so nice. The Flying Scotsman is probably my favourite because it has the traditional steam aesthetic but it has a beautiful paint job. The A4's were nice too. Interestingly, while the Mallard is by far the most famous specimen of this class there were a total of 33 others built that share more or less the same design: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LNER_Class_A4#Locomotive_data

Why didn't they save it? There was no concept of historical significance in the early 60's? It was the first one of its class too
